Felix F. Garcia, Jr. went to be with our Lord on Saturday, July 22, 2023. He was born 83 years ago in San Antonio, Texas, to Ysabel and Felix Garcia, Sr. He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 34 years, Lupe; his sister, Minerva. He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Dahlia; his children, Margie Garcia, Valerie Duffy (Chris), John Garcia (Cristela), Adam Herrera, and Francine Garcia (Marc); grandchildren, Sabrina Walker, Holly Hernandez, Danielle Rodriguez (Isaac), Sean Duffy (Kayla), Sarah Duffy, Sophia Duffy, Armando Garcia and Isabella Garcia; 5 great grandchildren; 4 siblings; former son in law, William Walker; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends; and 2 grand dogs, Lucy, and Lulu.
Felix proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1962 after graduating from Fox Tech High School. He served overseas on Texas Tower 4, also known as "Old Shaky", a general surveillance radar station located 63 miles off the coast of Long Island, New York. He was on the tower when hurricane "Donna" hit and had to "ride out" the storm. After the storm, Airman First Class Garcia did not return to the tower, but others were sent to man the station to prevent foreign enemies from taking it over. When a severe winter storm hit in January 1961, the tower tragically collapsed due to the damage sustained from the hurricane. None of the twenty-eight airmen and civilian contractors survived. Felix never forgot those men and how it could have been him. Felix completed his Texas Tower Tour aboard TT2 "The Can-Do Tower" from 1961 to 1962. After serving two additional years at Otis Air Force Base in Massachusetts, he was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force.
While working full time at Kelly AFB and raising a family, he earned a bachelor’s degree in applied arts and science in 1985 from Southwest Texas State University. Felix was the first in his family to graduate from college, something he was extremely proud of. After his retirement, Felix enjoyed working as an usher during games and events at the Alamodome and AT&T Center alongside the San Antonio Spurs for several years. He was a devout Catholic, serving the Lord as a long-time parishioner at Holy Spirit Catholic Church and previously at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower. He loved his Spurs and Cowboys, old western movies, good Mexican food, but most of all he loved his family and friends with all his heart. He looked forward to seeing everyone over the holidays with good food and conversation.
He will be missed dearly by all who knew him. He told his family “Take care of yourself; In the hereafter, believe me, I promise you, we're all going to see each other again." The family would like to give special thanks to all the caregivers and medical staff who cared for Felix, especially at Vitas Healthcare Inpatient Unit.
