

Filemon Villanueva, Jr., passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at the age of 78. He was born on December 4, 1942 in San Antonio, TX to Dolores Soto and Filemon Villanueva, Sr., and married Maria Teresa Mendoza Villanueva on February 4, 1967.
Filemon graduated from Central Catholic High School and St. Mary’s University. Filemon was a Vietnam War veteran and a Captain in the Army where he flew UH-1B Gunships for the 282nd Assault Helicopter Company whose mission included various food and supply deliveries to base camps of Special Forces and artillery observation posts. He worked professionally and retired as an Accountant from Baptist Hospital.
Filemon was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. He is survived by his wife, Maria Teresa Mendoza Villanueva; Felipe Daniel Villanueva and Sharon Raver-Villanueva, Alejandro Villanueva, Marissa Adriana Guadalupe Villanueva, grandchildren: Cory Michael Hoyt, Kira Alejandra Villanueva, Zacarias Gael Villanueva, Joaquin Adrian Villanueva, and great-grandchildren: Kori Emma Powell, and August James Powell. Fil is also survived by many nieces and nephews to whom he was known as “Uncle Fil”. He was a beloved member and compadre to “the pack”, a group of treasured friends.
Fil enjoyed life. He readily attended cotillions, birthdays, baptisms, concerts, graduations, marriages, parades, and more. He loved a good meal, wine, music and the company of his family and friends. His life was enriched by his wife, Terrry, of fifty-four (54) years. She was the love of his life, and he was hers. The family they made together gave Fil his greatest joy, and a full and meaningful life.
