Born on October 21, 1926, in Pleasanton, Texas, Florence was the beloved only child of Telbert and Annie Krause. Shortly after her birth, the family relocated to San Antonio, where Florence's journey began. She completed her education at Alamo Heights High School in 1943 and soon embarked on her career as a secretary for Joske's Department Store Manager.
It was during her time at Joske's that Florence's life took a beautiful turn when she met and married Roman Wenzel, on September 19, 1945, at Christ Lutheran Church in Alamo Heights. Their union was blessed with two wonderful sons, David and Gary. After 15 years in San Antonio, they decided to put down roots in Bulverde in 1960, purchasing a ranch where they created many cherished memories together. Florence continued to make the ranch her home until she moved to Franklin Park Sonterra on January 1, 2012.
Known affectionately as "Flo" to her friends and family, Florence possessed a boundless zest for life. Her interests were diverse, including traveling, cross-stitch, sewing, gardening, playing sports like baseball and basketball with her sons and grandchildren, and participating in bowling leagues. She was an exceptional cook and enjoyed games like Spinner and Bingo. After Roman retired, she even embarked on a fulfilling 15-year part-time career at GVTC.
Florence was preceded in death by her loving parents and her beloved husband of 51 years. She is survived by her devoted sons, David (Sue) and Gary (Carol); her adoring grandchildren, Kimberly Hoke (Matthew), Kevin Wenzel (April), Brandon Wenzel (Michelle), Tyler Wenzel (Erin), and Chad Wenzel (fiancée Chelsea); as well as her cherished great-grandchildren, Justin, Hannah, Blake, Addie, Parker, Summer, Skyler, Olivia, Piper, and Jack.
Honoring her memory, the pallbearers at her service will include Kimberly Hoke, Kevin Wenzel, Brandon Wenzel, Tyler Wenzel, Chad Wenzel, and Chris McCord, with Richard Schroeder as an honorary pallbearer.
The Wenzel Family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Franklin Park Sonterra for their exceptional love, friendship, and care provided to "Flo" over the last 12+ years. Their unwavering support has been truly remarkable.
A Celebration of Life to honor Florence's remarkable journey will take place on February 10th at 10:30 am at Porter Loring North on 1604.
