Frances Ramelle Leeper, age 85, went to be with the Lord on August 10, 2007. She was born July 28, 1922 in Independence, fondly known as "Bucksnort", Mississippi to Clifton B. and Ina McKinnon Poindexter. Fran was a gracious lady who was in constant surprise by the life she lived. As the wife of Major William F. Leeper, she traveled the world from Japan to Portugal finally "landing at home" in San Antonio, Texas with three wonderful children who survive her.
As the wife of the Assistant Air Attaché to the U.S. Embassy in Lisbon, Portugal she often commented over the years, "who would ever have thought a 'country girl from Bucksnort, Mississippi and a farm boy from Mt. Pleasant, Iowa' would have entertained Ambassadors and Heads of State from around the world".
Fran graduated from nursing school with a RN degree in 1943. During World War II she was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps. While stationed at Moody Field in Valdosta, Georgia, Fran met and fell in love with Bill, her future husband.
Second to Fran's faith in Jesus Christ, she truly loved being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was fun-loving, had a cute sense of humor and loved life. She was a wonderful friend to all who entered her life. Fran was blessed and loved!
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Bill; parents; brothers Paul and Harold Hatch Poindexter; and daughter-in-law Karisha Leeper.
Fran is survived by daughter, Rita Sholund; son, William F. Leeper II; daughter, Pamela Swint and husband, Rick of Houston; grandchildren, Robert Sholund and wife, Aimee, Jennifer Sholund, Nicole, William II, Jonathan and Kelsey Leeper; great-grandchildren, Travis, Courtney and Morgan Sholund.
