Frank M. Dr. Roach

Dr. Roach was born in Shreveport, LA, on August 10, 1929. A feisty and precocious youth, he developed a love for horses and hunting. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and served on the U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt and was later recalled to service during the Korean Conflict.

He graduated from L.S.U. and later met his wife of 58 years, Bonnie Williams. He attended veterinary school at Texas A&M, where he was a Borden Scholar and graduated #1 in the class of '58. Following graduation, Frank and Bonnie resided in San Antonio where he practiced small animal medicine for more than 50 years, and was twice president of the Bexar County Veterinary Medical Society. Early in his career he performed innovative research at the Southwest Institute for Biomedical Research in the area of organ transplantation, and later collaborated with numerous local researchers in the advancement and development of high frequency ventilators and their use in the neo-natal setting. He was a gifted surgeon and diagnostician.

Outside of his professional career. His hobbies included: polo, skeet and trap shooting, and twice he was the president of the San Antonio Gun Club. He held and managed several hunting leases throughout South Texas, where he taught family and friends a love for the outdoors, hunting, and land stewardship. He was happiest walking behind his dogs in pursuit of quail, hunting doves, all night hog hunts, and telling tall tales around the campfire.

He is survived by wife Bonnie, daughter Sara, Son Buz, and 3 grandchildren, Caleb, Taylor, and Cole.

He will be remembered by friends and family as a brilliant and talented individual, a prankster and witty humorist, and a loving husband and parent who left an unforgettable impression upon all he met. In those who were close to him he instilled the following beliefs: pursue education, always question, admit that you don't know,
