He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred E. Tipton and William Marshall Tipton and one brother, Jack M. Tipton.
He was of the Class of 1941 at the University of Georgia Athens. Commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in September, 1942, from the Miami Beach OCS, he had various assignments state-side and a three year tour in Newfoundland.
While on AFROTC duty at the University of Maryland, College Park, he was enrolled as a night student at The George Washington University, Washington, D.C. from 1950 - 1954. He received a Juris Doctor degree JD and passed the D.C. bar in June 1954.
While on Air Force assignment in Los Angeles, he enrolled as a night student at the University of Southern California, receiving a Master of Laws degree LLM in 1962.
He retired from the Air Force in 1963 and immediately went to work as Assistant General Counsel for the Northrop Corporation now NorthropGrumman.
In 1976, he was medically retired from Northrop.
