

Ferdinand “Fred” Charles Buckholdt Jr., age 83, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend entered into eternal rest and went to be with our LORD and Savior on Wednesday, July 13, 2011. Fred was born January 12, 1928 in San Antonio, Texas, the son of Ferdinand “Fred” Charles Buckholdt Sr. and Hazel “Gaki” (Hawlowetz) Buckholdt. He is known to many as “Freddy” or “Uncle Freddy” and as “PawPaw” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Freddy graduated from Central Catholic High School and from St. Mary’s University at the age of 19, and joined the United States Naval Reserve. He spent 33 great years at Kelly AFB and retired as the Directorate of Materiel Maintenance Management. Freddy loved country music, country dancing and the Grand Ole Opry. He loved nature, deer and traveling with his family and friends especially to Dallas Cowboy games, Medina Lake, Las Vegas and gold prospecting trips. He was a diehard Cowboy and Longhorn fan and loved to sit and play cards. Freddy loved the Easter Celebration especially hiding eggs for his family and having water gun fights at family reunions. In his later years he had a fascination for his family’s genealogy and loved nothing more than to spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be missed by all whose lives he touched and will be remembered for the special love of his Mother, his love of life, love of family, love of friends, love of nature, love of God, love of chocolate, his laughter, his generosity and his heart as big as Texas. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Dorothy (Warzecha) Buckholdt; his three children and their spouses Charles (Stephanie) Buckholdt, Victoria (Julie Pribyl) Buckholdt and Anthony (Christine) Buckholdt; his five grandsons Ernie (Roxann) MacDonald, Danny Buckholdt, Matthew Buckholdt, Fredric Buckholdt and Franklin Buckholdt; his granddaughter Crystal Rios; his two great grandsons Noah MacDonald and John MacDonald; his four sisters Mary Lou “Do” Zowarka, Hazel “Punky” (Joe) Holbrook, Josephine “Jo” Savary and Patricia (Harold) Stein and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 6:00 PM, Saturday, July 16 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home with a Rosary at 5:00 PM. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Monday, July 18, at St. Luke Catholic Church, 4603 Manitou Drive, San Antonio, TX 78228. Interment will follow at San Fernando Cemetery #2.
