Fred was born in San Antonio to Fred and Mary Chaney. He remained in San Antonio his entire live where he began his family and a long brilliant career in haircutting.
After attending Central Catholic High School and Brackenridge High School, he went on to serve two years in the Navy. Upon his return he went to beauty school in order to go into business with his father. They were successful partners in Art Beauty Salons. During these years he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his father and son, Fred III.
In 1976 Fred went on to pursue his own dream. He went to New York to study with Paul Mitchell. With this new knowledge and the help of his daughter Deborah, He started the first haircutting studio in San Antonio. This was the beginning of a trend that continued to grow in San Antonio. This was also the same time in his life that he discovered another passion, bicycle riding. At the age of 45 he began to ride and train with many friends and his daughter Cheryl. He went on to race and win several medals on the local and state level. Fred continued pursuing both of his dreams until the age of 71 when he suffered a severe stroke. He then moved into Brighton Gardens where he was loved and cared for the remaining years of his live.
His parents Fred and Mary Chaney preceded Fred in death. He is survived by his children Deborah Chaney Hill, Cheryl Chaney Wilson and her husband Ricks Wilson Jr, and Fred C. Chaney III: grandchildren Jason Mathew Binner and wife Wendy and Courtney Taylor Hill.
