Frederico Garcia

Sergeant Major (Retired) in the US Army Federico Garcia- 71 passed away with his family by his side on January 21, 2023, in San Antonio, TX. He was born in Clovis, NM on June 21, 1951. After Graduating Fort Sumner High School, He joined the United States Army, where he served 26 1/2 years starting as A Tanker in Vietnam and retiring from his military career as a Recruiter.
In 1996, Fred was able to relax, enjoy his family, friends, fishing and his Cowboys and Indians (Not the Dallas Cowgirls). He loved telling stories to his children when they were younger and when they were adults, along with their children and grandchildren, he Loved his music and sitting in the back yard listening to that music. Fred loved volunteering with the Memorial Services Detachment (MSD) Honor Guard. He said it was always an honor to honor those who served their country. He Loved his country to the end.
Fred is preceded in death by his late wife Alice Lopez, His father Ernesto Garcia, Mom & Stepfather, Annie & Manuel, Brothers Robert Alires and Terry Alires, and Sister Mary Garcia.
He is survived by his wife Yvonne Garcia of San Antonio, Daughters Kathleen Mullen (Danny) of Corpus Christi, TX, Sonja Gebhart (Ron) of San Antonio, TX, Monica Hairell (Matthew) of New Braunfels, TX, Angela Puente (Juan) of Ingleside, Janet Spearman (Sonny) of Weesatche, TX, and Son Julian Puente III of Ingleside, TX. Brother, Orlando Garcia (Priscilla) of Santa Rosa, NM, Sisters Lucinda Bassler (Chris) of Fort Sumner, NM, Nancy Romero of Fort Sumner, NM Teresa Wood of Fort Sumner, NM, Brother George Romero of Clovis, Sister Teresa Alires of Kansas, Sister Diana Messersmith of New Jersey, Sister Cathy Martha of Levelland and sister, Salome Schigut Garcia of College Station, He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and Several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces and Nephews.
Fred was the Patriarch of the family and will be missed by his family and friends.
Rosary Services and Funeral will be in San Antonio, Texas
The Rosary will be at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with a private viewing for family on Feb 12, 2023, at 5pm. Public viewing is at 6pm and the Rosary will be at 7pm.
A mass will be on Feb 13, 2023, at St. Pius X Catholic Church at 1pm, Burial Will be at 2:15-2:45pm at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery and the Bereavement (Celebration of Life) will be at St. Pius X Catholic Church at 3pm.
Pall Bearers from the Funeral home to the church will be Nick Mullen, Walter Hernandez, Conner Hairell, Noah Hairell, Nicholas R Mullen, and Hector Garcia
There will be a live stream for those family members and friends that will not be able to attend on Facebook @ Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home which will be open at 7pm for the Rosary and again at 1pm for the mass.
