He was preceded in death by his parents, Adrian Morris and Edith Mae Wallace Vanden Bosch, and his precious daughter, Janet Wilson. Fred is survived by his beloved high school sweetheart wife, Mary McGregor Vanden Bosch; daughter, Beth Mathis (Dow); son-in-law, John Wilson; brother, Bill Vanden Bosch (Larra) of Sacramento, California; sister-in-law, Laurae Kuykendall (Dan) of Corpus Christi, Texas; and the shining lights of his life, grandsons, Lane Hillje and Declan Mathis. He also leaves behind two nephews, Alan Beals (Kim) and Bill Kuykendall (Yvonne); niece, Karin Vanden Bosch; great-niece, Cami Kuykendall; and great-nephew, Julian Kuykendall.
Fred graduated from W.B. Ray High School (Corpus Christi) in 1961. He then attended Texas A&I University (Kingsville, Texas) and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in history while working and providing for his growing family.
Fred’s main vocation was with the United States Postal Service for more than 30 years. He started at age 18 unloading mail bags from the train at night, eventually working his way up to Kingsville Postmaster from 1973 - 1979. He then became Director of Finance in Corpus Christi for five years, following as Director of Finance in the San Antonio District Office. He and Mary spent a year in Memphis, Tennessee where Fred worked for the regional Assistant Postmaster General, then came back to San Antonio where he was Director of Field Operations for five years and oversaw 112 post offices until retirement. After retiring from the USPS, he held several other jobs until he finally retired once and for all.
Over the years Fred was heavily involved in a number of benevolent and charitable organizations including the Kingsville Kiwanis Club (president), the American Heart Association of Kleberg County, the Mission Road Ministries board for 22 years (including receiving the Friend for Life recognition for his service in 2016), and the Crossway International board. He was also a very active member of Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, including ushering for more than 25 years and teaching many Bible studies and Sunday school classes. Until his death he was still able to connect with the church by attending church services and the men's Bible study remotely with the help of his loving wife. Fred was a devoted husband, wonderful daddy, and a good friend to many. He could easily toss out a joke or hand out sound advice when asked, whichever a situation called for, and he was always ready to help when someone needed him. His absence will be an immense void in our lives.
