

Gail Katherine Fowler of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Eugene, Oregon, died at the age of 91 on October 10, 2008 of natural causes. She was born October 16, 1916 in Tiernan, Oregon to Charles M. and Tena Beck Darling. Gail graduated from Mapleton High School in 1933 and Oregon Normal School, now Western Oregon University, in 1935. She taught elementary school in Mapleton, Cushman and Florence, Oregon. Gail married William H. Fowler, a career Army Officer, June 27, 1936.
Gail was preceded in death by her husband William H. Fowler, in 1981, her brother Charles M. Putt Darling in 1990 and her daughter, Linda Gail Ridgway, in 2004.
Her memory will be cherished by her two sons, Dr. William H. Fowler Jr. and wife Zena of San Antonio, Texas, Dr. Charles R. Fowler and wife Mary of Greenville, South Carolina, five grandchildren, Natalie Fowler, Cathy Fowler, Christopher Fowler and wife Ginny of Frankfort, Illinois, Maria Fowler, Benjamin Ridgway, a great-grandson Jackson Fowler, and Dr. Kirby G. Ridgway of Portsmouth, Virginia.
Gail was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eugene, Oregon. She truly enjoyed her early morning walks, playing bridge and traveling.
In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution in Gail's name may be made to the Shiners Hospitals for Children in Portland, Oregon.
