Gene Dykes was born in Long Beach, CA on May 9, 1947 to Gene Dykes, Sr. and Helen Smith and passed away on July 1, 2015 in San Antonio, TX at the age of 68. He proudly served in the United States Navy.
Gene was preceded in death by his father, Gene Dykes, Sr. and his daughter, Janie Christine Hadley. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Maria; daughters, Tiffany Rumbo (Keith), Jennifer Gibbon (Michael), Cindy McBurnett (Kevin), Wendy Hajj (Daniel); grandsons, Marshall Gibbon, Conner Gibbon, Julian Hajj; mother, Helen Engel; sister, Karen Hertz (Michael), brother, Alvin Latham (Mary), sister, Darlene Redclift; and numerous nieces, nephews as well as other family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 6, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home. A celebration of Gene’s life will be at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
