George Adams Kampmann died at the age of 90 on July 14, 2015, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in San Antonio on August 2, 1924 to Margaret and Ike S. Kampmann and resided there all of his life. George was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon and an elder. The highlight of his spiritual life was two trips to the Holy Land with Louis Zbinden giving his religious commentary. George served his time in World War II as a combat infantryman with Co. E of the 100th Division starting in Southern France and ending up in Germany. His first hospital experience was when he contracted chicken pox on the boat, which was a lucky break, because his foxhole buddy was killed the first day in action.
George had a successful law practice for over fifty years in San Antonio, after graduating from The University of Texas School of Law. However, his most successful accomplishment was meeting and marrying Wister Howell from Bryan, Texas.
George was a member of various clubs and professional organizations. He was also Past President of the San Antonio German Club, member of The Order of the Alamo and the Texas Cavaliers.
George was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Lasater; her husband, Garland Lasater, and his brother, Ike S. Kampmann, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Wister H. Kampmann; children, George A. Kampmann, Jr. (Abigail Guenther Kampmann) and Ann K. Schneider, (Ernst Schneider) and grandchildren, Camilla Kampmann and Elizabeth Kampmann.
We know that today there is one more avid fly fisherman in heaven.
