

He was born September 18, 1920, in Laredo, Texas to Rafael and Amalia Laurel. A member of the Greatest Generation, he served in the 1st Cavalry in World War II where he received many medals including the Bronze Star Medal. This medal is an award authorized by Congress and presented in each case by direction of the President, to military personnel for outstandingly heroic or meritorious achievement during actual combat against an armed enemy of the United States.
He was a graduate of Tulane University where he received his Bachelor of Business degree. George worked for the City of San Antonio for 25 years. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Laurel.
He is survived by his daughters, Margaret Long and husband Ronald, Patty Laurel; sons, George H. Laurel, Jr., Ralph Laurel and wife Josephine; and grandchildren, C. Austin Lobitz, George Arriola and Miles John Laurel.
