George Lacy Mayes Jr., age 72 of San Antonio surrounded by loved ones went home to his Heavenly Father on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Methodist Stone Oak Hospital. George Lacy Mayes Jr. was born on August 1, 1947 in Quanah, TX to George Mayes Sr. and Frankie (Nixon) Breitenkamp. George was a Vietnam Veteran. After graduated from North Texas State University, George worked for South Western Bell and later spent many years with AT&T where he retired from. He also worked with The United Way and was a member of Cornerstone church. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle and loyal friend that will be dearly missed.
Mr. Mayes is proceeded in death by his father, George Lacy Mayes Sr. and his brother, Sean Mayes. Those left to carry on his memory are his mother Frankie Jo Breitenkamp of San Antonio, his children, daughter Angie Stewart of Sanger, daughter Melanie Mayes and husband Quincy of Little Elm, daughter Melynnda Mayes and husband Tanner of Denton, and son Steven Mayes of San Antonio, his brother Geoff Mayes and wife Linda of San Antonio, brother Greg Mayes and wife Judy of De Soto, and sister Linda and husband William of New Braunfels. He has 15 grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
Services for Mr. Mayes will include a visitation at Cornerstone Church on Monday, September 9, 2019 from 5-7 pm. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at 9am at Sunset Funeral Home with a procession to follow to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery to commemorate with Full Military Honors, his service and dedication to the U.S. Army.
