Gerald G. Haugh is preceeded in death by his father, Frederick Gilbert Haugh, mother, Ruth Christine Haugh, and sister, Elsa Ruth Wright. He is survived by wife, Sue Ann Pemberton-Haugh, daughter Cynthia Millichamp, son, Michael Haugh, daughter Christine Turner (Thomas IV), daughter Sarah Jane Villarreal (Joseph), and grandchildren Kelly Angle (Blake), Elizabeth and Michael Millichamp, Tommie Turner, Cynthia, Abigail, and Michael Haugh, and great-grandchildren Liberty and Bliss Angle.
Gerry grew up in Beaver, PA and spent every summer playing baseball. He was honored to receive an invitation to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers. His time in the Army during the Korean War was spent both as a medic and baseball player.
After receiving a B.S. in Engineering, Gerry went on to work for various steel companies in their sales department. His wonderful personality was always well received. Working on the steel for the Astrodome and several buildings at NASA, Gerry moved his family from Pennsylvania to Houston. Lured to the next big project, he then spent many years working on the Standard Oil Building, Northern Trust, and Sears Tower in Chicago.
Gerry moved to San Antonio in the late 1970's to start his own building restoration company. Through this venture, he met his wife Sue Ann, an architect on one of his projects. He was not one to sit idly by, so he went back to school at age 62 to earn a bachelor's degree in education and became a special education teacher for nearly 20 years.
Gerry is well known for his mischievous smile and outgoing personality. He could always be found in his seat behind home plate at the Missions Baseball game or out on the golf course with his friends. He spent countless hours volunteering at church working in the office, kitchen, and outreach programs. He was particularly proud of his part in the installation of solar panels on the education wing of the church. As a strong supporter of the San Antonio Conservation Society, Gerry volunteered for NIOSA for more than 25 years.
Gerry was proud and supportive of all 4 of his children and their individual endeavors. Until recently, he was very active and liked to stay busy, even to the point of playing golf 2-3 times per week. Gerry was the oldest in the golf group, but that didn't stop his ability to play or competitive nature. He had such a vivacious personality that most people would have never guessed his age. In June of 2016, Gerry was diagnosed with Stage IV Mesothelioma and fought a brief but vicious battle. Dedicated to family, community, and the church, he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
