

Gilbert was a proud son, father, grandfather and lifelong public servant, Gilbert graduated from John F. Kennedy high school then joined the United States Navy and served on the USS Hancock and Vietnam where he received numerous medals which include the National Defense service medal , Vietnam service medal and Vietnam Campaign service medal.
Upon completion of serving with the United States Navy Gilbert then dedicated much of his life protecting others as a fireman for Lackland Airforce Base. Retired as Chief after 27 years of courageous service.
He treasured his time off with his loved ones and was a supportive steady loving presence in the lives of his two children.
He is preceded in death by his mother Consuelo Salazar Pena and father Gilbert T Pena Sr.
He is survived by his son Gilbert Pena III (JoAnn Pena), his daughter Andria Pena Arellano (Joe Anthony Arellano). Three beloved grandchildren; Hunter Michael Silva, Savannah Love Pena and Autumn Joy Silva and two affectionate Shih Tzu puppies, Coco and Carson, who brought him great joy.
Known for his quiet strength, kindness, and steady humor, Gilbert will be remembered for his commitment to his community, family, and pups . He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, which included the outdoors fishing , hunting , camping and smoking a couple of cigs on his front porch.
Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, TX 78237, US, on March 19, 2026, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, followed by a Chapel Service at the same location on March 19, 2026, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 pm.
A Committal Service with Military Honors will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209, US, on March 19, 2026, from 2:30 pm to 2:45 pm.
