

Gilbert graduated from W.B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi, Texas. After completing high school, Gilbert joined the U.S. Air Force where he distinguished himself not only as a skilled radio operator but also as a valued member of the Air Force baseball team and talented boxer.
Gilbert pursued his passion for learning and received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Texas A&I University in Kingsville, TX. He dedicated 42 years to shaping young minds as an Educator/Principal in various schools throughout the CCISD community, even achieving Principal of the Year, an accomplishment that Gilbert was very proud of. An avid and passionate reader, he could often be found lost in the pages of a good book.
Gilbert is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Lydia Silva; daughters, Julie Silva and Anna Baker; grandchildren, Vanessa Carpenter (Christopher), Amanda Rodriguez, Jacqueline Rodriguez, Raelene Duran and Erin Silva, Cameron Baker and Morgan Baker; and five great-grandchildren, Brianna Acosta, Angela, Isabel, Angel and Gilbert III. Gilbert also leaves behind his brothers, Jessie Silva and Juan Silva; and sister, Lydia Gonzalez; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his only son, Gilbert Silva; his parents, and brothers; Arturo Silva, Israel Silva, Ruben Silva, and sisters, Juanita Cavazos, Ernestina Holden, Victoria Zamora and Aurora Davila.
A visitation will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, located at 8134 Blanco Rd, San Antonio, TX 78216, on December 9, 2025, starting at 9:00 am. The Recitation of The Holy Rosary will follow at 9:30 am and Funeral Mass at 10:00 am. A Celebration of Life Reception will be held in Guadalupe Room #2 - South at Holy Spirit Catholic Church from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. The Committal Service will be conducted at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209, at 1:15 pm.
