Gordon was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, great-uncle and friend. Gordon was born in England, and grew up in the Midlands, son to Gordon Cyril and Anna Ball. Gordon studied and became an exceptional mechanical engineer and there wasn’t an engine problem or design that he couldn’t handle. He ran oil and gas rigs in the North Sea for British Petroleum, Amoco, and designed and tested both aeroderivative and automotive engines for Rolls-Royce/Bentley as well as other production roles throughout his career.
Gordon loved a good wind-up/joke. He sometimes would laugh so hard at his own jokes he would drown out everyone else’s laughter. He knew and routinely sang every edgy Irish limerick ever written. He loved spending time in his garage-working on cars or doing woodwork. He was an inveterate gambler, with some of his best memories in Las Vegas. Gordon was an Englishman, and worked around the globe, but he became an adopted Texan and Texas became his true home. He loved hunting, fishing and loved roadtrips with his family.
Gordon is preceded in death by his beloved mum Anna and father Gordon. He leaves behind his loving wife and family. Gordon will be best known for his larger than life spirit, wild stories and even more lively personality. He was truly the life of every party and will be fondly remembered for his light hearted fun, his never ending supply of hilarious stories, and his excitement for life.
The Ball Family will receive guests for Gordon on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 N Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, Texas 78232, followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 PM.
