On Monday, July 1, 2013, Guadalupe Jimnez Valdz ascended to her eternal life in the twinkling of an eye and is now present with the Lord. Magnificently resolute and rooted like Texas Mesquite, Guadalupe, "Lupita" "Ama" "Grammo", lived her life with fierce conviction and unwavering love unparalled by anyone who knew her.
There to greet her as she moves nearer to God will be her husband of 60 years, Anselmo "Chemo" Valdez; her parents, Jesus Jimenez and Luisa Ramirez; son, Alonzo "Lonnie" J. Valdez; brothers, Alfredo Gonzales and Ramiro Jimenez; sister Rosa R. Jimenez. She is survived by her son, Edward J. Valdez and wife, Margarita; daughter, Gloria Gallegos and husband, Anthony; sons, Juan J. Valdez and wife Martha; and Carlos J. Valdez and wife Irene; sister, Hope J. English of Elk Grove, CA; brother, Luis Jimenez of Sacramento, CA; sister, Eulalia (Lala) J. Salazar.
Born on March 13, 1921 to Jess Jimnez and Louisa Ramrez Jimnez, Lupita lived her life con cario. Her tenacious character developed from an early age, leaving hallways and classrooms for good in the third grade, but continued to learn life's lessons en los surcos of adulthood. Lupita burned like the sun and lived like it, too--- always the first to rise and the last to bed. She is well-remembered as working hard to build a future, caring to continue a legacy and loving with a determined heart.
If Lupita was the sun, her kitchen was the galaxy, the place in which everything existed, where everything happened, where rivalries were resolved, where egos crumbled and, with a warm plate of food, lives were built again. She is the warmth that envelops her 5 children, 15 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 20 great-great grandchildren near and far. Dedicated Spurs fan, bowling champion, billiards sharp-shooter, her competitive nature was unmatched.
Whether selling pecans for Christmas money or making tortillas for the tired and hungry, her hands were always working. Most importantly, most forgivingly, those hands blessed every friend and family member who was within reach- as only Lupita could say, "May God guide you and bless you from the crown of your head, to the tips of your toes." She was a member of Santa Fe Episcopal Church on Brunswick Blvd for many, many years.
The Valdz family is especially thankful to Adriana Barajas for her service to love and care for Lupita in her final years and also the CIMA Hospice Services Team.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2013 from 7:00pm to 8:00 pm at Porter Loring on McCullough Ave.
