Beloved daughter, wife, mother, Aunt, friend and resident of San Antonio since 1946, passed away February 15, 2013 at the Forum at Lincoln Heights.
Born April 30, 1914 to James Edward and Hattie Tweedle Thomas in Sulphur Springs, TX was the 11th of 13 children. She enjoyed a wonderful childhood growing up in a large house filled with brothers and sisters.
Hazel married her love, Carl Brown (Skeet) Stockard in Sulphur Springs on Christmas Eve 1934 and they enjoyed a wonderful marriage of 67 years.
They were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Patricia Ann in 1936 who preceded them in death in 1957.
Hazel enjoyed sewing, gardening, and playing bridge, but her true excellence appeared in golf. Both Skeet and she traveled and played the game with their many golfing friends.
They were members of Oak Hills and later, Sonterra Country Club where Hazel really excelled. She was a member of the Ladies Golf Association that celebrates her achievements with "The Hazel Stockard Scramble" each year in late April.
Being an excellent putter the short game was her specialty. She continued to play into her early nineties.
Hazel was a very generous person with her time and money. She worked to raise money for the Cancer Society. She was a Kiann, Alamo Kiawanis wife's club member. She was a long time member of the Alamo Heights United Methodist Church and contributed to their educational scholarship fund.
Hazel is survived by her last remaining sibling, Mrs. Hattie Glover of Longview, TX, six nieces and nephews, and many other family and friends.
