

Helen Mannos Stanley, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dedicated member of the Greek Orthodox community, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 100.
Born on July 7, 1925, in Jacksonville, Florida to James K. Mannos and Kaliope Monou Mannos. Helen was a devoted San Antonio SPURS fan and lived a life rooted in faith, service, and love of family. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, CMSGT James Wiley Stanley, a former WWII POW and proud member of the United States Air Force. Helen was also preceded in death by her parents and siblings: brothers: Gus, John, George, and Spirro Mannos, and her sister, Katherine M. Copas.
Helen leaves behind a legacy of compassion, leadership, and devotion to her heritage and church. She is survived by her children: James Russell Stanley (Karen), Michael Henry Stanley (Wanda), and Sandra Stanley Shaw (Dwight). Her memory will be cherished by her grandchildren: Alexandra Stanley Read, Michael Shea Stanley, James Tyler Stanley, Helen Rose Shaw, and Mariah Dubose Vasquez, and by her great-grandchildren: Madalynn Rose Vasquez, Layne Thomas Vasquez, Josephine Shea Stanley, Molly Miller Stanley, Eadie Bloxom Read, James Aiden Stanley, and Lillian Jade Stanley. She is also lovingly remembered by her extended family, including more than 28 nieces and nephews and over 22 great-nieces and great-nephews.
Helen’s service to her community and the Greek Orthodox Church was a cornerstone of her life. She served with dedication in several roles, including Secretary of the Diocesan Philoptochos Society, Past President of the St. Sophia Philoptochos Society, Past Treasurer of the Daughter’s of Penelope, and Secretary of the St. Sophia Church Council. In 1989, she was honored as "Daughter of the Year" by the Daughter’s of Penelope Delta District—a testament to her unwavering commitment to her faith and culture.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary, located at 1101 McCullough Ave, with a Trisagion service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 2504 N. St. Mary's St. A committal service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd.
