Howard Erwin Lancaster, Jr.,MD, born July 6th, 1928 to Howard and Ruby Lancaster of Beeville, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013. He loved and cherished his family with all his heart and soul and his family will remember him for the good and honorable man he was: a devoted and loving husband and father.
Howard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty, their three sons and spouses, Howard, Scott and Mary, and John, Liz and his "favorite" grandson, Flynn. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Scott.
Howard graduated from UT Austin with a BA (1949) and the UT Medical Branch in Galveston (1955) with a degree in Psychiatry. He served his internship and residency in Galveston before joining a private practice in San Antonio in 1960. During his long and enjoyable career, he was Chief of Psychiatry, Grace Lutheran Hospital (1967); a co-founder of Park North General Hospital (1971); and served as president of the Bexar Co. Chapter of the American Psychiatric Assn. (1977) and the Titus Harris Psychiatric Society (1980). In 1994, Howard left private practice and joined the staff at the San Antonio State Hospital until his retirement in 2002.
Howard was a Texan and San Antonian to the core, enjoying hunting, fishing, ranching, gardening and Los Barrios and Chris Madrid's. But his lifelong love was, first and always, his family and his many wonderful friends, who already miss him dearly.
