Irene Canales Pena, went to be with the Lord on December 26, 2014 at her family home in San Antonio, TX at the age of 92. She was born on February 23, 1922 at the Canales family ranch in La Zacatosa in Starr County, which was part of a land grant set aside in 1836 to her great grandfather General Antonio Canales, Commander-in-Chief and secretary of war of the Republic of Rio Grande, 1840, and later a general under Santa Anna. Irene was a true Ranch Lady and spent as much time as she could there herding cattle at the age of 90. She is survived by her loving husband Noe O. Pena, children Irene Pena Perez (Albert), Noe Albert Pena, David Noel Pena (Alicia), sisters Zulema Ramos, Esperanza Benavides, brother Raul Canales, 4 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday January 5, 2015 from 5-9 pm with a rosary at 7 pm at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home. A Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday January 6, 2015 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 11:30 am. Interment to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:15 pm.
