Irene Pearl Smith

For all of us blessed to know her for almost a century, 36,354 days to be exact, she revealed God’s light to all she met.

Her roots began with parents in Norway, way back when

Tall and beautiful with a Knudson DNA flair

With movie star looks and gorgeous long blond hair

Grew up in Clifton, a little South Texas town

She picked cotton in a Texas cotton prairie gown

She is Irene Pearl, almost had an Idabell Pandora name

Yeah, really weird, would have loved her just the same

Smart as a whip in school and played basketball too

With looks and brains like that …nothing she could not do

And broke a lot of boys hearts along the way

Until a guy named Douglas made her stay

Lived in a lot of places with the Air Force military crew

Stops in Frisco, Alaska, DC, Florida, Texas, to name a few

But in that Frisco town a baby gal Denise began to move

She was a spittin image, with golden locks to prove

Followed parents around and did her college at TCU

Deni met a guy named Jon at that Horned Frog ‘’U’’

Then two grandkids Erin/Ryan put a smile on Irene’s face

Now four great grandies give her heart a fast pace

Sofia, Bella, Lucia, and Nico, she brags about ‘em loud

Has so many kid’s pictures her Towers place, it’s a crowd

On her 80th flew her to Paris walked the Champs Elysees

Ate at La’tour e’Argent to celebrate that special year

On 81 flew to the colosseum and seven steps in Rome;

then stayed with us in our incredible Istanbul home.

for almost 100 years we have been blessed with Irene

In a crazy crazy world she makes everything seem serene

Known as the YELLOW ROSE OF TEXAS, yup that is true

Like skies on the Lone Star horizon, her eyes shine blue

Good to know ya Mamaw for all these many a year

There is no doubt about it, to all of us you were so dear!

Now celebrations begin in heaven, as the angels jubilate

They have been waiting for your arrival at heaven’s gate
