
Jack Domnitz, M.D. passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at 8:12 A.M., CST at Proctor Hospital.
He was born on November 26, 1929 in Milwaukee. He attended Peoria, Illinois school system through 1947, and graduated from Bradley University, Peoria, Illinois in 1950, University of Illinois School of Medicine, Chicago, Illinois, as a M.D. in 1954.
He did his Internship at Saint Francis Hospital, Peoria, Illinois 1954-1955. Dr. Domnitz served his Residency at Brooke Army Medical Center, in San Antonio, Texas 1956-1959. Dr. Domnitz was a long standing, deeply respected member of the Peoria Medical Community. His achievements included development of CCU protocols for all three of Peoria's hospitals; Program Director for the Internal Medicine rotation at Methodist Medical Center; Chair and founder of the Department of Internal Medicine at Proctor Hospital; Chair of Endocrinology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria, where he was an assistant clinical professor; He was on the Board of Directors of the Arthritis Foundation in Peoria; and giving of his time at the Heartland Clinic, a free medical clinic in Peoria, Illinois and Medical Director of Health Plus Proctor Health Services.
He separated from the Army in 1962 as a Major. The Peoria Medical Community deeply mourns the loss of this respected colleague. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Trimm Domnitz whom he married in August 1953 in Chicago, she died in 1985. Survivors: wife, Miriam Spitz Domnitz whom he married in Peoria in March 1986; children, Esther Thompson and husband, Roger, Thomas Domnitz, Melody Chase, Nancy Spitz Shiloff and husband, Stuart, Richard J. Spitz, MD and wife, Norma, and Lynn McCue and husband, Raymond McCue, MD; grandchildren, Rebecca, Asa, Noah, Talia, Adam, Daniel, Sean, Brian, Andrew and Elizabeth; sister, Miriam Lebedun and husband, Martin; brother, David Domnitz.
