Jack attended Southwest Texas University and played basketball for the Bobcats. His college career was interrupted when he was drafted into the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to college where he completed his degree in education. He was hired at Harris Junior High in SAISD to teach social studies and coach. He then was a coach, teacher and Vice Principal of Northside High School (John Marshall HS) and later appointed as the first principal of Holmes High School. He was promoted to Central Office as the Deputy Superintendent and later the Superintendent of NISD for twelve years. After his retirement from Northside ISD where he spent thirty-five years, he went on to serve as the Superintendent in Harlandale ISD. He earned many accolades throughout his career that he always attributed to his staff, teachers and students. He knew you could achieve more at school with students by involving their parents, so the PTA's were near and dear to him. Because of his support the NISD Council of PTA's honored him with Lifetime Memberships of the NISD PTA, Texas PTA and the National PTA and named their scholarship for him. The Texas High School Coaches Association awarded him with their Distinguished Service Award for his statewide support of athletics in 1994. He was selected 2 times as the runner up for the Texas Superintendent of the Year. Jack was most proud when he was watching and supporting students, teachers, and staff members accomplishing great things. He was instrumental in the establishment of San Antonio's first magnet schools. Jack wanted students to have choices and that's when he envisioned Health Careers High School and Business Careers High School. In 1995, the NISD Board of Trustees named their newest middle school Jack C. Jordan.
After retirement, he was active with the NISD Museum Association and spearheading the NISD Oral History project where he captured the stories of the early school founders.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two of his sisters and survived by his loving wife of 61 years Ann (Patrick) Jordan, daughters Julie Horn of Dallas, Jennifer Jordan of San Antonio, and Jeanine Haley (Raymon) of Gatesville, and Grandchildren Kelsey Horn, Patrick Horn, Shelby Horn and Sara Jordan, sister Valerie Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at 4 p.m. at University United Methodist Church 5084 De Zavala Road, a reception to follow. Private interment will be held at a later date at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers for donations to be made to the NISD Council of PTA's Jack C. Jordan Scholarship.
