

Jack W. Westerfield of San Antonio, TX, age 72, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2007 at his home. He was born in Amarillo, Texas on November 18, 1935, the son of the late Glenn W. and Billie Faye Westerfield. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1954 and from Texas A&M University in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He received a Masters of Business Administration degree from West Texas A&M University in 1980.
Mr. Westerfield married Kay Harwell on August 3, 1958 and immediately went to work for Shamrock Oil & Gas Co. in Dumas, Texas as an engineer. They lived there for the next 10 years except for a six month tour of duty with the U.S. Army during which time he was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia and Fort Hood, Texas. He served in the National Guard for five years.
In 1968, he was transferred to Amarillo and lived there for the next 15 years. In 1983, he was transferred to San Antonio and retired from Ultramar Diamond Shamrock as Director of Project Engineering in 1999 after 41 years of service.
He was a Registered Professional Engineer, a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and served on the Executive Board of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
Mr. Westerfield was an active member of the Presbyterian Church which he served as a Deacon for two terms and as an Elder for five terms, always as a member of the Service and Missions Committee. He volunteered with Suicide Prevention Crisis Intervention, Christian Assistance Ministry, San Antonio Metropolitan Ministry, Meals on Wheels, and Habitat for Humanity.
In addition to his volunteer work, he enjoyed reading, traveling extensively, and spending time with friends and family, especially his four grandchildren.
Besides his wife of 49 years, he is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Sam Larson of Kingwood, Texas, and Susan and John Harper of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Katie and Hannah Larson, and John Westerfield Wes and Georgia Harper; a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Marie Westerfield of Cleburne, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
