My Brother's Life 

The day that my brother died, the world did not stop turning. Despite how much I thought my world was ending, life for others continued on. People still went to work and school, still celebrated things like graduations and birthday parties. Birthdays. My brother and I shared the same birthday. He died eight days before we could celebrate. It was an ordinary day. School was out for a Fall Holiday and my family decided to go for a walk around the neighborhood. The walk for my brother and I became a sibling competition: my bike against his sprinting abilities. Of course, he won. He was the more athletic one. As he turned to gloat no doubt, he smiled my favorite crooked smile and fell down. He never woke up again after that. After we came home from the hospital, I went into my brother's room and buried my head in his pillow. It still smelled like him- an earthy scent like falling autumn leaves with traces of mint. Now that James is gone, I often speak of him in the past tense. I will think to myself or say to other people, "I loved him." When did this become past tense? Do I love him any less now than I did when he was alive? If that love did not continue after a person dies, how would their memory still have so much power? I believe that James' memory will live on in me until the day I die. My father sees his eyes in me when I look at him. My mother sees traces of him in my smile, especially when it touches my eyes. I see him in the autumn leaves and the clouds when the sunlight filters through them just right. Although I know he has left this world behind, I will hear his chuckle or his voice in a crowd and know that he is waiting. I believe that when someone dies, their memory lives on. I believe time does not heal all wounds; it coats them with scar tissue and the pain diminishes. I believe that love outlives death.

The price of love is loss, but we still pay. "Thought we had the time, had our lives
Now you'll never get older, older
Didn't say goodbye, now I'm frozen in time." I miss you. And I wish I could've seen you grow older.

James Cenney was a young man of the highest caliber, but this is of no surprise to anyone as the fruit doesn't fall far from the tree. JWG

When I moved to Texas James was the first preson to talk to me. He was an incredable preson. I moved to Flordia this year and when his sisters told me i couldnt believe it till now i see.I'm sorry you lost such a great son.

Just a note to let you all know that you've been in my prayers. I know God will comfort your hearts. Will call in a couple weeks or so. Jim

The Greeks did not write obituaries when someone passed on in ancient Greece.....they only asked one question....."Did they have passion?" And my friend, James Bernard Cenney had great passion all his life. "One crowded hour of glorious life is worth an age without a name." Happy Birthday James!!!!!!

My thoughts and prayers go out to your entire family, but especially to Anne. I just wanted to let her know that a former teacher was thinking about her.

James was such a special young man. I will miss him very much. I will smile when I think of him.
