

He was born April 9, 1932, in New York, New York, to the late James J. and Mary E. Dowd.
He graduated from Iona College and was an active member of the Alumni Association. He was a proud Marine Corp veteran and a 44-year member of the American Legion rising to the rank of vice commander at Alamo Post #2.
James was a longtime member of the Harp and Shamrock Society of Texas and served on the board of Directors and as Treasurer.
He was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church and involved in ACTS and Meals-on-Wheels. He was a consummate volunteer and member of the Fiesta Commission, Beethoven Mannerchor, and the San Antonio Sports Foundation.
His brother, Patrick J. Dowd, preceded him in death.
Jim is survived by his brother, Frank J. Dowd and wife, Irene; nephews, Frank J. Dowd, Jr. Kevin P. Dowd and wife, Carolyn; nieces, Mary Kate Corbett and husband, John, Eileen McCosker and husband, Matt; grandnephews, James Lutz and John Corbett, Jr.; grandnieces, Meagan and Katie Corbett, Erin and Kelly Dowd; sister-in-law, Virginia Dowd.
