

LT Col James H. (Jim) Leonard, USA (Ret) passed away June 6, 2014. He was born on August 28, 1918 in Bristol, VA, the son of James and Cora Leonard. He received his BA degree at King College in Bristol, VA and his BBA in Accounting at Southern Methodist University. He earned an MBA in Finance at St. Mary’s University. Jim was one of the first in the town of Bristol to be drafted into the Army. During World War II he saw action in the Pacific, and when peace was declared he was released from active duty and transferred to the Army Reserve. He was recalled to active duty in 1950 and was assigned to NATO Headquarters in Naples, Italy. His later assignments were in data processing at Ft. Meade, Maryland, Orleans in France, and as Director, Data Processing, 4th Army Headquarters at Ft. Sam Houston. At the time of his retirement he was Director, Data Processing Department, US Army Adjutant School at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. Upon retirement he settled in San Antonio and immediately went to work at USAA in their Information Systems Division.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Leonard. Jim was an Elder on Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
