

James Norris Riggs, affectionately called "Shorty" or "Uncle Shorty", born near Somerset, Texas on April 30, 1928 passed away Thursday, October 11, 2007.
He graduated from Somerset High School and was Valedictorian of his class. Jim retired from S.W. Bell Telephone Company as an Engineer with 39 years of service. He was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America who always enjoyed the friendship of his co-workers.
An avid sports fan, he coached YMCA youth football for 13 years. A strong supporter of Baylor University athletic program, board member of the Baylor Bear Foundation, member of Baylor Linebackers, Bear Backers Club, and was a Baylor Alumni By Choice. James Norris was a member of San Antonio First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Willie Mae Harvey and husband, Leonard; brother, Burkett Riggs and wife, Loyce; nephews, Ernie Bandy and wife, Mary, Weldon Riggs and wife, Sally, Jimmy Riggs and wife, Sarah, Michael Riggs and wife, Leslyn, Robby Riggs and wife, Laurie, Joey Riggs and wife, Kathy; nieces, Linda Ellebracht and husband, John, Susan Mueller and husband, Larry, Judy Teal and husband, Tim, Rhonda Dean and husband, Gibby; thirty-one great nephews and nieces; including Ashley and Abbey Riggs whom he considered to be his "granddaughters".
