James David (Jimmy) Sallings approach to life was to live it to the fullest. Whatever he did, he went "all in," with a steady focus and driving passion that inspired all who knew him. Funny and energetic, Jimmy was always looking for ways to challenge himself physically and mentally, and he excelled at every endeavor. Born in Corpus Christi, Texas on June 3, 1969, Jimmy graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1987, and went on to attend Southwest Texas University. There, he earned a degree in journalism, while being an active member of both Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, and the universitys wrestling team. He also enjoyed some "local celebrity" as the drummer for the "Kat in the Hat," a band that entertained at local clubs and venues. Jimmy met the love of his life, Jennifer, through mutual friends. The couple married on October 20, 2001, and had two beautiful daughters, Jenna (age 16), and Julia (age 13). Jimmy was a loving husband, and a supportive and devoted father who cherished his wife and daughters every day of his life. With his outgoing personality and caring nature, Jimmy never met a stranger, a trait that served him well throughout his successful lifetime career in medical sales, most recently as Regional Business Manager for Canon Medical Systems. Never one to sit still, Jimmy was an accomplished athlete who made health and fitness an integral part of his world. When he wasnt lifting weights in his garage gym, he could be found perfecting his Jiu Jitsu skills. True to form, he advanced quickly through the martial art levels, earning a purple belt, and working with his usual dedication towards his brown belt status at the time of his death. Jimmys strength was more than physical. He was the backbone of his family. A devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, Jimmys absence will be felt in the lives of all who knew him. In addition to his wife and two daughters, Jimmy is survived by parents Jim Salling of Spring Branch, Texas, Meredith Hammond of Apollo Beach, Florida, brother Bo Salling, wife Jessica, and nephews Coen and Asher of Lubbock, Texas. He is also survived by his loving father-in-law, Ted Barber and mother-in-law, Judy Barber of Floresville, Texas; his brother-in-law, Jason Barber and his wife, Shelley; his niece Rylan, and nephew, Koen of Kapolei, Hawaii.
A celebration of life for Jimmy will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church, 16801 Huebner Road, on Friday, August 26, at 11:00 a.m. The family asks that everyone wear bright colors. In lieu of flowers, memorials donations to be made in Jimmys name to the Childrens Bereavement Center of South Texas, 205 W.
