James had a full life of service and dedication to his family and community. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army. After his military service he returned to San Antonio where he began working as a maintenance engineer at USAA.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita R. Smith, parents, James and Lilia Smith; brother, Reymundo Gomez; and sister, Lilia Louise Smith. He is survived by his two sons, Michael James Smith and Joseph Smith; brothers, Robert Lee Smith and Rudy Richard Smith; extended family members; and many friends. The family will receive friends at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at Porter Loring Mortuary.
