

Janet Irene Preston Burns was born on January 30, 1921 and peacefully left earth to be with the Lord on January 16, 2009 at the age of 87. She was born in Dallas, Texas, to the late Clay and Irene Preston. She attended elementary school in San Antonio and graduated from Jefferson High School. She attended the University of Texas and was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She married US Naval aviator Lt Commander Hugh Burns, a childhood sweetheart, on July 13, 1945, at Pascal, Washington. After World War II, Lt Commander Burns separated from the Navy and took his new bride to the Burns Ranch near Dilley, Texas. Janet's favorite pastimes were cooking and playing golf. After raising her daughters, she became an accomplished golfer and scored a hole-in-one during one of her golf outings. Janet was a kind and caring person. She had a wonderful personality and never criticized or uttered a cross word to anyone. Janet was preceded in death her husband Hugh, daughter Laura Burns Moore, son-in-law John Terry, and is lovingly survived by her daughter Katie Burns Horlen (Buster), grandchildren Preston Moore (Maira), Trey Moore, Jenny Moore Mansker (Clay), John Terry (Sarah), Lisa Terry Calzoncit (Chris), and great grandchildren Tyler Moore and Emerson Mansker. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Pat Dailey, son-in-law Cayce Moore and numerous nieces and nephews. The Burns family wishes to express their gratitude to Henrietta Hernandez and Ellie Munoz for their devotion to Janet. A special thanks is extended to caregivers Barbara Hilton, Ruby Orta, Rose Reyes, and Tomasa Quintanilla for their daily care of Janet. The family thanks the staff of the Forum for their compassionate care.
