It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved father, Jesus “Jesse” Paulino Alva, who passed away peacefully December 18, 2024 at the young age of 72 in San Antonio Texas. He was born in Cheyenne Wyoming but his hometown was Crystal City Texas, Spinach Capital of the World. He is preceded in death by his parents Marcelino and Carmen Alva and sibilings Noemi Rodriguez, Estevan Alva, Marcelino Alva Jr and Jose Alva. He is survived by siblings Elizabeth Gutierrez, Antonia Cortez, Sara Alva, Luis Alva and Pedro Alva. He was a dedicated and loving father to Jessica Alva and Kristalee Palacios Alva, an amazing grandfather to Jescenia Valdillez, Harley Valdillez, Melisabel Mena, Anallie Palacios, Julius Romero and Izaias Romero and a cherished great grandfather to Faith and Hope Ordonez. He is survived by nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins on both sides of the family who will all miss him dearly.
He came from a very proud family of migrant workers, his first job was at the age of 8 picking the cotton fields, cherry trees and a list of others over several of the Northern States. He learned a hard work ethic at a very young age and carried it with him throughout his lifetime.
He started his law enforcement career at Trinity University in San Antonio Texas before joining the United States Navy and doing an 8 year stretch around the world before returning back to his hometown. So if your in Japan, Puerto Rico or Italy and this man looks familiar call me, we may be related (wink wink-jk). In 1989 he decided to move to San Antonio and return to law enforcement where he joined the Bexar County Sheriff Department until he retired in 2008. He went on to become a Commissioned Peace Officer by the state of Texas and joined S.E.R.T (Special Emergency Response Team). After retiring in 2008 he took some time off and decided he wasn’t quite ready to sit around all day. He ventured on to try something new and found himself in the landscaping business with R&C Landscaping. It was something he learned to love and continued to do that until his final retirement in October of 2024.
He was a hard working man who always put his family first. He took pride in his careers and instilled a strong work ethic in his family. He had a smile for everyone he met and leaves behind a legacy of service and compassion. He was known for his kindness, sense of humor and hard work ethic but more than anything he known for his dedication to his family. He was the best dad, grandpa, great grandpa, uncle, brother and man I have ever known. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him
