She received a teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College and taught in San Antonio at Redeemer Lutheran School, Mt. Olive Lutheran School and Trinity Farm School.
She was preceded in death by her parents George and Erma Elder, husband Richard, brother Max Elder, and sisters Helen Honts and Jean Welander.
She is survived by her son Jerry and wife Carolyn, son Mark, and son Kim and wife Cathy, her grandchildren Cherie Short and husband Joseph, Jeff DeVries, James DeVries and wife Barbara, Thomas DeVries and wife Elizabeth, Timothy DeVries, eight great-grandchildren, and sister Marion Schwartz of Tacoma, Washington.
She was a member of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church.
A visitation will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Porter Loring Mortuary on McCullough.
