

As a child, she was a girl scout & a member of the Bristol County 4-H Club, Needles & Spoons. Raised on a dairy farm for 8 years, she had a great love for animals. She attended North Attleboro schools and graduated from King Phillip Regional High School in 1960. She was a member of the First Methodist Church.
Joan worked for 24 years at Factory Mutual Engineering in Norwood Massachusetts. She attended Community College of R.I., Bristol Community College, and after moving to San Antonio, Texas in 1986, attended San Antonio College. She enjoyed her volunteer BAMC work for the American Red Cross a Fort Sam Houston in the oncology ward as well as volunteering at the Baptist Memorial Hospital.
Many of her professional memberships and accomplishments include Workers’ Compensation Adjuster’s Licence, American Business Women’s Association, 1995 Woman of the Year Connections Chapter – National Notary Association and certificates in Continuing Education & Comal County Sheriff Citizen’s Academy member.
Her work career included administrative assistant, Office Manager, H.R. Assistant, Assistant Property Manager, Benefits Administrator, and Retail Manager. She retired at 62 and stayed very active.
She was a member of the New Braunfels Elks, Blue Star Mothers, Hill Country Orchid Society, the Canyon Lake Republican Women & N.B. Republican Women. She was a volunteer for the New Braunfels Humane Society and for Meals on Wheels.
She had many interest which included growing orchids on her windowsill and entering them in orchid shows, growing African violets, boating/sailing, traveling with her husband around the United States, fly fishing, taking water color classes, and traveling to Europe with her life long friend Carolyn Ellison. The one thing she enjoyed was the neighbors cattle around her property which was referred to as her yard pets, her three rescue dogs which were very dear to her, and cats Noodles and Bella. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. One of her passions was rescuing feral cats – she fed & cared for a colony of feral cats for years as well as bring one home to have kittens.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Chuck Langille, sister Debbie Thomas & her husband Ike, niece Leslie Langille and nephew Jakob Van Leuvan, Mother Grace Langille & father Charles.
She is survived by her husband John; step-son Denny Smith & his wife Kirsten of Wisconsin; brother Donald ‘Butch’ Langille & his wife Janice of Massachusetts; sister Candace Pickett & her husband Bob of Virginia; brother Bruce Armstrong of Idaho; sister Diane Price of New Zealand; niece Missy Badger & her husband Jeff & their children, of North Attleboro, Massachusetts; nephew Richard Langille, wife Jessica, & 2 children; niece Christine Moncure & daughter Grace & great grand niece; nephew Donald Hibbs of New Zealand, Adam Hibbs, wife Nicola, and great nephew & niece from London, England. She is also survived by brother-in-law Paul Smith and wife Beverlee of Kerrville, Texas; nephew David Smith and niece Haylee of Kerville, and nephew Allen Smith, his wife Pam, & niece Emma Grace. She is also survived by her life long friends Carolyn Ellison & her husband George & all her wonderful friends from New Braufels & Canyon Lake.

Following, Joan will be sent home to North Attleborough, Massachusetts. Interment will follow in Mount Hope cemetery under the care of Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, with a reception to follow at Halligan’s Grill in North Attleboro.
