She was the wife of Dennis Dawson and devoted mother to her two sons, William Currie of Dallas, Texas and Edward Currie (Christina Currie), of Arlington Heights, Illinois.
She is survived by loving sisters, Pati Nootbaar and Sharon Mielke; brother, Jim Zychowski (Patty); as well as grandchildren, Rachel, Ava, Emily and Will Currie, and Colton, Payton and Hauxton Dawson.
JoAnne was beautiful, smart, strong, and independent. JoAnne was always determined to reach her goals—ballerina, pianist, and certified financial planner. She courageously fought COPD for over 5 years. She graduated from Resurrection High School and from Elgin Community College with an associate’s degree, accountant for the Village of Hanover Park Illinois and became a Sr. Vice President at Wells Fargo Brokerage in San Antonio. JoAnne practiced a strong Catholic faith.
In her free time, JoAnne enjoyed volunteering for Arts San Antonio, the North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, gardening and feeding hummingbirds, always setting out sugar water for the scout. She and Dennis played hundreds of games of Scrabble during the last 5 years—she won most.
She was Busia to all 7 of her grandchildren-planning holiday activities-gingerbread house building, easter egg coloring, and baking Christmas cookies. She taught them how to make Polish kolaches and pierogies.
We will all miss the impact that JoAnne had on our lives as she made them so much brighter just by being in them. Her everlasting spirit will remain in our hearts forever.
