Joe Anthony Barrera

Joe Antony Barrera, born on August 30, 1936, went to be with the Lord on August 10, 2016 at the age of 79. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Angie Barrera; son, James Arthur Barrera; sister, Velia Medellin. He is survived by his loving wife, Martha Jo Ann Barrera; son, Joe Anthony Barrera Jr. (Graciela); grandchildren, Christopher Allen, Mark Anthony, Sophia Leticia, Jackeline Grace, Kristen Genevive; brother, Humberto Barrera (Rosie), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Joe led a busy life retiring from the military after 31 years of service. He earned his Bachelor’s degree while working in civil service and later taught classes at St. Philip’s College.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A procession will depart the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors rendered. Arrangements under the direction of Sunset Funeral Home, San Antonio, TX.
