John Robert Baranowski passed away in his sleep on July 25, 2023. At 80 years of age, he had been blessed with good health up until the time of his death. Born in Victoria TX as the son of a military man, John lived in Texas, Georgia, California, and Japan as a child. He enlisted in the Army at the age of 17 and served his country in South Korea. After discharge, he lived in Rosharon TX near family, and in El Paso Texas and Veneta Oregon before joining family in San Antonio.
John lived his life with little interest in material possessions and left a light footprint on this earth. He was a life-long “tinkerer” who enjoyed fiddling with things others considered past repair and was often successful in getting them to work again. He practiced “reuse and recycle” long before it was given a name. He supported himself with various jobs throughout his life and made use of his interest in tinkering when he was a typewriter repairman and appliance repairman. Although John had strongly-held opinions he never disrespected those who disagreed. John was a gentle and kind man and will be missed by those who loved him.
John was preceded in death by his parents, George and Alice (Seaborn) Baranowski. He is survived by his sister, Georgia Ann “Sissy” Hogan (Andy), of Rosharon TX; brother, Joe Baranowski (Peggy), of San Antonio TX; nieces, Debbie Villanueva (Eddie) of Helotes TX, and Kathy Murphy (Craig), of Horseshoe Bay TX; nephews, Tony Hogan (Susan), of Riverside CA, and Tim Hogan (Annabelle), of Angleton TX; as well as grand nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Aug. 19 at 2:00 PM. Services will be held at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 N Loop 1604 E, San Antonio, TX 78232.
