John F. De Arment, age 95, passed away peacefully after a long and fulfilling life. As devoted husband, father, grandfather, federal servant, community volunteer, cat lover and artist at heart, John remained vibrant and healthy until his final days.
John served three years with the Army in Germany to the rank of Sergeant. After graduating from Wharton School of Business, he dedicated much of his professional life as a Bankruptcy Analyst, a role that took him across the country and beyond — most notably to Puerto Rico, where he spent several meaningful years. His career included positions with various oil companies and ultimately the U.S. Department of Justice, where his sharp mind and attention to detail left a lasting impression.
In retirement, John discovered a new creative calling in the fiber arts. What began with latch hook rug making soon evolved into weaving, and before long, his home was filled with looms and rich threads. He crafted beautiful, handwoven scarves and delighted in sharing his creations at local craft festivals. His joy in learning and creating never faded.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Miriam E. De Arment; his parents, Vince F. De Arment and Hilda Irene De Arment; and his brother, Vincent De Arment of Erie, Pennsylvania. He is survived by his children, John R. De Arment and partner Don Smith and JoAnn Thompson and husband John; his grandchildren, Zachery and wife Emily, John, Joshua, and Jacob Thompson; and many extended family members who will miss his spirit and dry wit.
John’s life was a testament to curiosity, resilience, and quiet dedication. He will be deeply missed by all who have had the privilege of knowing him.
A private family gathering will be held to honor his life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a local no kill animal shelter or Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (https://themmrf.org) in John’s memory.
