On November 8, 1942, our loving Dad and Papa, John "Buddy" O. Givens Jr. was brought into this world by mother, Helen Meadows and father, John O. Givens, who preceded him. This young Casanova lived a full and lustrous life. As we all know, through his many years traveled across the world, he had the opportunity to meet and nurture many of whom today are considered friends.
On April 26, 2015 at 01:21 our Papa passed away comfortably in his home surrounded by love. It goes unsaid that in this moment, the love in the air was palpable.
He is survived by his loving and spirited wife, Michele "Mitch" Givens. In all of their wonderful years together, next month, May 26th would have made 47 years of marriage. Along with his wife, "Mitch"; his sister, Jolene Carrier and her husband Jack; his son, John O. Givens III and wife Jennifer; daughter, Renee Mitchell and her husband Clark; and grandsons, Corey Givens and Caleb Mitchell survive him. In addition to his loving family, he is also survived by his life long friend of 57 years, George Whitlock.
This West Virginia native joined the United States Air Force on September 20, 1961. He served in the Air Force for a little over 20 years before retiring as a Master Sergeant. During his time in the military, he had the honor of serving in the Vietnam War. While working at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, a position in the civil service became available. He began at Wilford Hall, working in the Brace Shop as an Orthotics Instructor. One of his many passions was teaching his students and watching them flourish. Not only did he teach them the basics of being an Orthotist, he taught them many life lessons they still talk about today.
Our Dad, John "Buddy" O. Givens will be dearly missed by all that loved him. Best known for his personality, he was always the first to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Along with many others, this loving quality is one that was cherished by all.
