

John Walter Glass, age 98, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2015 at his home in McQueeny, TX. He was born on January 29, 1916 to John and Ann Glass in Georgetown, TX. John grew up in San Antonio and graduated from St. Mary’s University. He married Allene Palm in 1940 and enjoyed 67 years together before her death in 2007. In the early 1940’s, John had the privilege of studying architecture with the famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright at Taliesin in Wisconsin. This experience would influence him both professionally and personally for the rest of his life. John retired from serving as the tax assessor for the Northeast Independent School District in 1981, and soon thereafter he and Allene moved to McQueeney, Texas. The passion of his professional life was as an architect, and he continued to design and build modernistic homes throughout his life.
He is survived by his 3 children, Walt Glass & wife Cynthia, Pamela Herberger & husband Roy, Gary Glass & wife Carol; 6 grandchildren, Aaron Glass, Brandon Herberger, Crystal Glass, Veronica Glass, Matthew Glass & wife Michelle and Sarah Sullivan & husband Chris; 4 great grandchildren, Annabelle DuFrene, Holden Sullivan, Juniper Glass and Peco Glass; and nephew, Charles White.
John was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his sister, Vera Rothermel; his grandson, Christopher Glass and his niece, Karen Hardt Prybila.
Visitation will be 11 a.m., Friday, January 9, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, immediately followed by a 12 noon Funeral Service. Interment will continue at Sunset Memorial Park. A reception will follow the service at Sunset Funeral Home.
