John Neal Jones

John Neal Jones, 89, was walked to Heaven's gate surrounded by family and his beloved bulldog, Jabba the Hutt, at his home Sunday, August 30, 2015. Born in San Antonio, Tx. on February 27, 1926, he answered to many names...Neal, John, Dad, Uncle Johnny, Uncle Neal, Jonsie, and most notably, Pop. He proudly served his country in the Navy and Coast Guard for almost 10 years. After the service he pursued a career as owner of John N. Jones Gulf Oil Distributor followed by co-owner of J & S Self Service Stations until retirement. Pop lived life to the fullest everyday. Some of his favorite activities were playing Texas Hold-Em with the Caribbean Club, sitting on the deck with Jabba in the sunshine watching birds surround his feeders, telling funny stories, singing, dancing, watching old westerns, and cheering on the Spurs. He, also, raised lots of animals on his ranch for 38 years. Our Pop was met in Heaven by "the prettiest girl in Elizabeth City, NC," Elsie Lee Jones who was the "wind beneath his wings" and her dog, Li'l Elsie, his beloved son John Neal Jones Jr., sister Kathryn Williams, brothers Martin Jones, and Carrol Jones.

He is survived by his devoted daughter, Carol Ann de los Santos who will treasure this past summer caring for him, grandsons John de los Santos, Jared de los Santos and wife Loren, granddaughters Leah Welch and husband Bill, Sierra Robbins and husband Justin, numerous loving nieces and nephews, his many friends including Claude Sarran, Mike Cheuvront, Joe de los Santos, Frances Hudler, Pat Cressner, Mary Naprstek, Lauren Hudler, Dana Faris, little Vicente and lots of granddogs. We will honor him daily in our lives and always remember his credo: "It's a beautiful day, the sun is shining, the birds are singing, count your blessings, breakfast is ready...Happy Day!"

The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
