

John Reginald “Reggie” Marthis, born March 21, 1931, in San Antonio, Texas, passed away January 19, 2013, following a short illness. Reggie graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1948, attended San Antonio College, graduated from Trinity University, and served in the United States Army.
After military service, he began his teaching and coaching career at La Coste ISD. After consolidation with Castroville, he coached and taught at Medina Valley ISD. His next teaching and coaching adventure took him to South San ISD and McCollum High School in Harlandale ISD.
After receiving his counselor’s certificate, he served at South San ISD, McCollum High School in Harlandale ISD, Judson ISD, MacArthur in North East ISD, and Holmes High School in Northside ISD. When Health Careers High School was formed in Northside ISD, he became their first counselor.
After retirement, he continued officiating basketball and football games in and around San Antonio. He was a member of the Southwest Basketball Officials Association for 32 years and a member of the Southwest Football Officials Association for 28 years. He then formed a group of men to work as Chain Crews for Northside ISD at high school football games for the last 14 years.
He is preceded in death by his father John Marthis and mother Blanche Marthis. He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy after 58 years of marriage and his pride and joy, his son, Rick E. Marthis, wife Jana, and two grandchildren, Brett and Kailyn. Reggie also had a great love for his many pets through the years.
The memorial service is to be held at the Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on Bandera Road at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2013.
