My deepest condolences to the Marthis family. Reggie was very helpful to me in my early days of officiating. I loved his approach to life and the way he cared for his fellow man. He will be missed.

Reggie was a great coach at LaCoste High School where he was my baseball coach for four years (freshman thru senior year). He took the baseball team to the highest level in the district and playoffs each year. I'll never forget what a wonderful man and coach that he was. My condolences to Dorothy and family.



We are all better people for having known, officiated with, and being mentored by Reggie.."The Chapter Roster Book Librarian."  My thoughts and prayers are for his family , especially at this most difficult time.

My sympathy goes out to Reggie family. I have known Reggie over twenty years from basketball and the last seven years working for him on the chain crew. Reggis was always nice to me and he always had a joke to tell when you talked to him. He will truely be missed and may God bless him and his family.

To the Reggie Marthis family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you.  I officiated many basketball games with Reggie as fellow members of the SBOA.  Reggie was always the consummate professional and treated me with great respect even after he retired from officiating.  A truly classy gentleman who will be greatly missed.

In my mind, Reggie will forever be known as the greatest secretary of the San Antonio Football Chapter of the Texas Association of Sports Officials - TASO (aka, Southwest Football Officials Association -SFOA).  Even after his retirement from football officiating, he served as my mentor and counsel in matters of the TASO chapter secretary when I was elected to this very important office.  I (like many) remember his honesty, integrity and wit.  Although he would never assign himself to work in any high profile games as others have done, he was considerate of others in a fair and equitable manner without prejudice or discrimination. 

I will always be thankful for a special varsity football game assignment in which he included me, my two brothers and my two sons.  This was the first time that my family members of football officials had been assigned together to a varsity football game.  Although of huge significance to my family, he also quipped that the assignment would not only be an opportunity for my family, but also an opportunity to bring our wives along so that they could go shopping at the mall before the game...the game was in La Pryor, Texas!

When he retired from officiating but continued to do volunteer assignments as a chain crew official at Northside Independent School District (NISD), he would always take the time to render tidbits (pearls) to improve one's football officiating skills.  He was particularly mindful (respectful) of others in the game such as the chain crew, timers, and game hospitality ambassadors.  He called us (football game officials) the "ambassadors" of the game.

Reggie will be missed by many and especially this football official and former chapter secretary for being a huge part of my life in the avocation of football officiating.  My sincerest and heartfelt condolences are offered to Dorothy his lovely wife of 58 years and his son Rick and his family.  May God bless Reggie's family in this time of their sorrow.  May the Perpetual Light of Eternal Life and Peace shine upon our brother Reggie.  When I recall how Reggie enjoyed life to its fullness, I am reminded of the following spiritual oath:

In happy moments, praise God!
In difficult moments, seek God!
In quiet moments, worship God!
In painful moments, trust God!
In every moment, thank God!

So sorry to lose the opportunity to visit with him since graduating from MV in '65. He made a wonderful lasting impression both on and off the field and in the classroom.  My deepest sympathies to Dorothy and family.

My deep condolences to the Marthis Family.  Mr. Marthis was a loved coach when I was at Medina Valley, then my daughter had his influence when she was at Health Careers in its earliest days.  My mother taught with him at Medina Valley.  He has been a direct positive influence on 3 generations of our family.

I am so sorry to hear of Reggie's passing.  Reggie had a tremendous impact on all who knew him.  I had the privilege of serving with Reggie when he was the Secretary of the San Antonio Football Chapter during the first year of my presidency.  Reggie kept impecable and accurate records for the Chapter--by hand.  He chose not to move on to the computer, but his records proved to be more accurate than those who followed him using a computer program.  

Reggie was also extremely ethical and unselfish.  He was one of the few guys I have ever known in positions of power or influence in football officiating that would purposely keep himself out of a playoff game to give someone else an opportunity to officiate that playoff game.  I never once saw him place himself in any game just because he had the power to do so.

Reggie also had a great sense of humor. Reggie had a repertoire of legendary jokes that you were going to hear no matter how many times you had heard them before.  During his time running the chain crew at NISD up to and including this past football season, Reggie blessed us with his famous jokes, including a few new ones. 

The mold was broken when God made Reggie Marthis.  He was one of a kind and will be deeply missed by anyone who knew him.

My deepest condolences to the Marthis family.  I was privileged to know Reggie from his days in the SFOA football chapter.  As chapter secretary he was always fair, forthright, & honest, and enriched us all with his humor.  Thinking about Reggie over the years has always brought a smile to my face.  The world won't be the same without Reggie in it.

Condolences to the Marthis Family, I was very fortunate to meet this gentleman through officiating and he was a sharing and caring individual. He had very good values in life and always was a pleasure to be associated with him on and off the field or basketball court. We will miss him, especialy when working at either NISD football stadium. My condolences to all the family.I met regie when i first started in 1988. At St Gerard he had  on the field training for line judge. He was precise and to the point. He also taught back judge with his timer by his side and always pointed out to always think of the clock. I can still picture him on the field. To the Marthis family, my deepest condolence go out to you,I know Reginald was a family man, and he would tell it like it was, straight forward.I've known Reggie (as we all called him),for 28 years and I always respected his words.  I called Basketball and Football with Reggie and it what a learning experience for me. I remember when Reggie retired from Basketball, he would be at Marshall basketball games and would talk and give us some pointers after the game, Reggie will be missed, but our lost is Heaven gain.
