One of God's gentle and humble servants, the Rev. John L. Park, Jr., passed away peacefully on Monday morning July 2, 2012 in his San Antonio home. He was 57. John was born and raised in San Antonio. He graduated from Alamo Heights High School (Class of '73) and Baylor University (Class of '77) and was working on his Master's through Fuller Theological Seminary. He is married to the former Darleen Prewitt, who is the Clinical Director at Odyssey Hospice. They have four children. John was the Associate Pastor at Trinity Baptist Church and served in numerous other capacities during his 33 year tenure. John enjoyed being with his family, the outdoors, writing, singing and playing the guitar, working with his hands and time alone in a canoe or the saddle.
John was preceded in death by his parents John and Kathy Park. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years Darleen and children, John III, Dakota, Amber and Sawyer, all of San Antonio; brothers David and wife, Sidney of Wichita Falls; James and wife, Martha of San Antonio; sister Joyce Park Engle and husband, Scott of Fort Worth, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank their many friends, including current and former members of Trinity Baptist Church for their love, support and prayers. Darleen would also like to thank her colleagues at Odyssey Hospice for their support of her during John's illness.
A memorial service in celebration of John's life will be held at Trinity Baptist Church, 319 E. Mulberry, at 3 p.m., Wednesday, July 11.
