

John was born at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, on October 23, 1959, and spent his childhood years with his family at various Army stations around the world but he spent the last forty years of his life in San Antonio, Texas. A graduate of Robert Cole High School, he attended Texas A&M and remained a loyal Aggie fan all his life. He had a gift for art and in his later years loved to compose artistic works on his computer. In addition, he derived great pleasure from watching lively antics of his rescue dog, Sullivan.
John's courage, faith and compassion for other in the face of his multiple infirmities inspired boundless love and admiration from his family and friends over the years. He was an exemplary human being and will be sorely missed.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jane Pratt Rattan.
John is survived by his father, Major General Donald Volney Rattan, US Army , Retired; his stepmother, Barbara Schneider Rattan; his sister, Jean Rattan Gautsch (George); his sister, Nancy Pratt Rattan; his brother, Donald McGregor Rattan; as well as his niece; two nephews and five great nieces and nephews.
