John Seibert was raised on a dairy farm in Clear Spring, Maryland. He learned the value of nurture, responsibility, and work by caring for and showing animals in FFA. The nearby St. Paul’s Reformed Church was regularly attended by his family - parents Kieffer and Helen, and their 3 boys: Daniel, David and John.
After graduating from Clear Spring High School, John went to Hagerstown Jr. College and on to the University of Maryland, majoring in Agriculture. At the latter, he played soccer and was in ROTC. Then he enlisted in the Air Force and was taught to fly, soaring over several continents as an eventual cargo pilot. While stationed at Enid, OK for flight training, he met a pretty, young lady that caught his eye at the local movie theater. John and Lois were married 6 months later, staying lovingly devoted for almost 68 years.
Following the birth of their first child, John and Lois moved to eastern Maryland to try civilian life, where he served as an Agricultural Assistant County Agent in two places. Then they moved to OK while he earned a Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics from Oklahoma State University. Next, Texas A&M Extension Service in Lubbock, TX employed John as a grain specialist for 7 years. It was there that son, Mark, was born, and the family went to Forest Heights Methodist Church. The New Mexico mountains, North of Pecos, became a favorite camping and trout fishing vacation spot with Lubbock friends. The next 4 years took the family to College Station, “Aggieland,” where John continued to work for their Extension Service. A&M Methodist Church was attended by him and family there. John was a US representative of the Feed Grains Council on a trip that took him to parts of Europe and Asia.
But after marketing and teaching about agriculture products for 12 years, he decided to make another change that brought the family to San Antonio in 1972. Bache and Co. employed John as a stockbroker/financial advisor for 25 years. He enjoyed talking with people, sharing ideas and learning. At Travis Park Methodist Church downtown, he taught an adult Sunday school class for years, and worshipped with friends and family. His two children married here and the grandchildren that came along were very blessed to be with their Papaw and Lulu! John was in Optimist Club and served as a NE School Board Trustee. For recreation, he liked to play golf, or go to Rockport with family to fish and play tennis. Through many major family health challenges, John remained a steady, encouraging, loyal prayer and supporter.
When retirement came, John took up building and woodworking. He and Lois traveled a bit more, and hosted family and friends at their home often. They lived in Spring Branch a good while, and eventually moved to Boerne into the Menger Springs community. John was a generous, caring gentleman who gave out many painted wooden cutouts. His love and devotion to his wife was stellar. He took time to go to God every day and taught his family many virtues. Thank you to all the friends who encouraged us - sharing faith, joys, prayers and cares!
