

John “Sonny” Alfred Sharp passed away at his home in San Antonio Texas on Friday, December 13, 2019 at the age of 79. He was born on November 1,1940 at Carrizo Springs, Texas to John William Sharp and Jemima Garner Sharp and was the youngest of 13. He graduated from Carrizo Springs High School and San Antonio Beauty School. He was a hair stylist for 54 years starting at “Frost Brothers”, owning his own business “Tea House Beauty Salon” and finally ending his career with “New Image Salon”. He was a lifelong resident of San Antonio and was one of the early homeowners in the Valley High subdivision. His hobbies included anything that was creative, including gardening, cooking, painting, sewing, and floral design. He also played tennis in High School and in later years loved watching tennis on TV. He was strong in his faith, baptized at 13, and active in his church family until later years due to declining health.
He is survived by one sister, Loretta Sharp Bouldin of Victoria, Texas. He is also survived by 13 nieces and nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, John William Sharp and Jemima Garner Sharp, his brothers and sisters, Myram Uppencamp, William Sharp, Ruby Berry, Mose Allen Sharp, Jeanette Hanus, Vida Jo Allen, Mary Joyce Hauschild, Mercedes Fisher, Laura Knotts, Shirly Beth Watchel, Charles “Dixie” Sharp. He is also preceded in death by longtime friend George “Ray” Benson.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, December 30, 2019 at 11:00 am at Lackland Terrace Church of Christ, 2000 SW Loop 410, San Antonio, Texas 78227. Internment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Carrizo Springs, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lackland Terrace Church of Christ.
